London Fashion Week SS13 - Day 2.

11:24

This day was officially THE BEST day ever, I had so much fun! A few weeks ago I was invited by Disney to the Inspired by Minnie Show. It's funny that I type it so casually when in actuality, in my head I was and am STILL doing a celebratory dance.

Polka dots will never be out of fashion, guaranteed. Bows will never get boring, 100%. Minnie Mouse will always be in the spotlight, fact. Omg that was so 'day time TV ad' right! Anywayyy, international designers including (inhale) Giles Deacon, Michael van der Ham, Richard Nicoll, Katie Hillier, Lulu Guinness, Tatty Devine and Terry de Havilland (exhale!) created 'Minnie Mouse Must Haves' - all were one off designs which is totes emosh but for a great cause! They were sold on eBay to support the BFC/Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation.

Obviously everyone knows how Minnie Mouse is my style icon right haha I've always wanted to say that if someone asked me but no I think anything Disney in general just exerts happiness out of everyone no matter what your age, I think I've been to Disneyland Paris like 12 times (bear in mind that I just turned 19!) and I'm proud to say that I still watch Disney Channel and probably always will! Plus some other shows from other channels are just getting MEGA AWKS these days, I'd rather stick to my awkward-free Disney :) I'm always telling people not to grow up too fast, there's a time and place for everything - take things one day at a time and just live and have fun! Okay so after my totes emosh speech, I shall continue! Take a look of a few of my Minnie pieces I've "collected" since I was born! Most of things are from Disneyland Paris, I love everything but one of the most unique pieces is my Minnie Mouse house phone, it's real and fully functioning! I remember one time going to Disneyland, we were actually meant to be on our way back to England but I saw it and wanted it so I bought it! Lining up in the busy queue nearly made us miss the Eurostar back to London but it was a defo worth it! I promise you every single person who comes into my room, if they’re not saying “you sing too much” or “you have too many clothes/shoes”, they’re saying “erm you know you’re obsessed with Minnie Mouse right?” “They’re polka dots everywhere” “Is that Minnie Mouse phone real?” “Why do you have so many Minnie Mouse stuff?” and then they normally preceed to physically count how many “Minnie Mouse stuff” I have, it’s quite hilarious, they normally give up after 1,324 slight exaggeration of course ;) Anyway, come and have a look..

Even before I knew about the Minnie show, I planned to wear something Minnie Inspired, what a coinkidinks right? Initially I had planned to hand-make my own Minnie inspired outfit. In fact, I wanted to make about four! Ain't saying I'm a R Nicoll, Giles, Lulu Or a T Devine .. but I had some designs which I wanted to make and will still do so in the near future. What happened was I went down to the local shops to hunt down some fabric and SCORE I found some red polka dot fabric and also some neon pink polka dot fabric. Shopping with a theme is so much easier because you literally walk into a shop and your eyes are drawn into any polka dot you see! What I normally do is go to literally every applicable store and when I'm sure I've looked at everything and tried my best, I go back to the best item(s) of the day! I was literally on my way back to the fabric store and I saw a red and white polka dot PEPLUM dress, I might as well have saw the leprechaun with the pot of gold because my luck was just up there! Peplum was already incorporated into my designs, so I thought I might as well save time and buy the dress! So that's exactly what I did. It's funny because I wanted to try on the dress in-store because sometimes I'm in between sizes but my hair was super duper thick on that day that I had to buy the dress, go home, get out my hair pins and hair bands to flatten my hair THEN try on the dress! Thankfully it was a decent size, a bit big on the waist area but hey it's okay! I would have taken it in my the fabric didn't have any stretch so getting it over my hair would have been even more of a mission!

Okay so that same day, I did a pre LFW dress rehearsal (Mucho excited? I know right!) - I had other Minnie inspired outfits (think polka dots, peplum sillohuettes, bows!) and I had tried them all with my NEON YELLOW FLATFORMS of course which was bought a few months ago with Minnie in mind. I also tried different hair styles, I did the Minnie ears hair bun with my real hair and because my hair is so thick I didn't even need any hairstyle to hold it, yay me! I think I may do a tutorial so look out for that. Another hair style I tried is one that hasn't been seen before, and as I didn't end up doing it, look out for it in future posts, hashtag exciting!

Okay so the chosen hair style was what I like to call "out there" and "shhsjzed" (attempting to sound out the word we all use so effortlessly). It was achieved by doing two flat twisted French braids with a bit of coconut oil the night before and simply fluffed out in the morning! My hair was previously 'Curlformed' the day before and separated before starting the flat twists! Volume volume volume was what I going for. Maybe I'm the only girl in the world that prefers my hair "frizzy" but I just LOVE big hair! Obviously I had to put the dress on first before releasing the French braids otherwise it probably wouldn't have fit over my hair! It's defo a PHEW moment when the dress was on successfully :)

As for my skin, I don't wear makeup apart from the red lippy but can you believe I lost two of my fave red lipsticks? SIGH. Thankfully I had an appointment booked with MAC and they sorted me out, they gave me a red lip and a slight top line flick! So some pics the red lipstick will be playing hide and seek but don't worry, you'll find it! 3, 2, 1.. ready or not here I come!

Homemade Collar (by myself) - these can add a geek chique to any 'fit! Tutorial? :)

LFW day 2 started off with (I feel like saying "a bang" but I'll refrain!) the Inspired by Minnie Show with Brix Smith-Smart, it was absolutely amazing to see polka dots everywhere! I met Alice from The Tales Of Alice Bean there, she's amazing! We had so much banter, check out her blog. Also once again I was with Honey the up and coming Designer, check out her website. People were so fascinated by the fact that my polka dot phone case matched my polka dot outfit! What can I say? I love polka dots! By the time of the second picture below this paragraph, my phone had ran out of battery so I used Honey's phone to take the pic but how cool would the picture have been with my polka dot phone case!?

I got a few pics with Minnie which was fun and obviously onlookers had difficulties telling us apart, OBVS she's my sister from another mister! However once that confusion was done, we had an uplifting talk by Brix who seems to love Disney as much as I do! I also met some people from Disney who are the nicest, most humble people ever including Marc Low, the vice president of Fashion and Home for The Walt Disney Company EMEA.

This blog post is turning into a novel I tell ya! For the whole day, my name was "Minnie" literally everyone called me Minnie! Later on in the day, I actually had intentions to change to a "Monochrome Minnie" which is my name for the look! It was still Minnie-fied however a black and white version (black and white polka dot peplum top with handmade collar, leathe leggings, hair up in two Minnie ear buns and of course my neon yellow flatforms!) however EVERYONE and I mean everyone begged me not to change, so I had my Monochrome Minnie safe and stocked in my Minnie Mouse suitcase that I've had for as long as I remember! I guess we'll save Monochrome Minnie for another day :)

I FRowed (front rowed!) a few shows later on in the day which was super duper fun, the above picture is myself, Sophia, Zara and Honey waiting for MATH to start. Catwalk coverage will be in an exciting magazine which I will keep you updated about!

One thing I LOVED about FRowing and LFW in general was the Vita Coco. There was like an unlimited amount in the Vauxhall Press Room which was like ACTUAL heaven but as well as that you got a nice refreshing carton of Vita Coco whenever you were Front Row so I had the absolutely humbling honour of having it so many times! It tastes like it's straight from the coconut, hashtag cut the middle man! It reminds me of being at an exotic tropical location, loveee. By the way, look at the man behind us in the above picture absolutely loving his Vita Coco natural water! You all know I love looking at Ingredients and literally it doesn't get purer, it's basically Coconut Juice and Vitamin C, I love anything with Vitamin C because Vitamin C is amazing for your immune system. I love water (as you know) and I love coconuts so this is evidently a match made in heaven. Omg I've said heaven and love like a million times, apologies!

I bumped into Sam AKA beautycrush - the sweetest girl ever who needs no introduction! Check out her vids. I also bumped into the fiercest duo, sporting their Givenchy swag, the girls behind STIMULATE IT (Gentiana) and IMPERFECT PERFECTIONISTA (Elina) - they're all so nice and I'm always grateful to be able to meet such genuine people.

As for street style snaps, what's wow backwards..? WOW! I think everyone with a camera and phone there took a picture of me, it was overwhelming! Little ol' JENNY FROM THE BLOG! I came home that day, slept and woke up to see myself in VOGUE ITALIA, COSMOPOLITAN, SUGARSCAPE, WHAT WILL I WEAR TODAY, FRUMPY TO FUNKY, MY DAILY (fashion priest) and lots more amazing website/blogs/photographers. ITV and Glamour were amongst a few that took pics of me too! I was even featured on Tatty Devines Instagram. Tatty Devine is one of the Inspired by Minnie designers and they designed the absolutely gorgeously fierce Minnie necklace! Check out the rest of their pieces on their website, their stuff are the absolute cutest - LOVE.

Also I was featured on the Youtube channel "Electra Loves" - Electra Formosa is the star of "Get The Look" and "Minnie & You"on Disney Channel. The picture was taken by Lucy Heather, both Electra and Lucy are so beautiful and friendly Electra!

Another highlight of the day is when Hillary Alexander, yes THE HILLARY ALEXANDER came up to me and asked to take a picture! I was thinking "OMG LEGEND" but I kept my cool for Minnie's sake. Face Hunter (Yvan Rodic) also did the same. It's strange to think that such fashion industry jewels liked the way I styled my outfit!

So as you can tell, day 2 was the BEST!

Until next time, here's a quote from Walt Disney:
"I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse"
